Bendigo District Astronomical Section

What are we?

The Bendigo District Astronomical Section (BDAS) is an informal group of ASV members that call Bendigo and surrounds home. We are the ASV's first regional section and have members with active interests in many areas including visual astronomy, astrophotography and radio astronomy.

What do we do?

We host regular AFTP events throughout central Victoria including popular school star nights and community star nights.

Each month (weather permitting) we host Sidewalk Astronomy - an opportunity for the families to view the moon and other features of the sky using our members telescopes and binoculars.

On Friday evenings you'll regularly hear BDAS on ASV Net on 3.541 MHz with members from ASV's Radio Astronomy section.

As our interests are diverse, we often meet with other groups including Deep Sky, Astrophotograpy and Radio Astronomy. Our close proximity to the Leon Mow Dark Sky Site enables us to regularly enjoy its rich night sky and meet with members from Melbourne and other areas of Victoria.

When and where do we meet?

We meet at the Discovery Science & Technology Centre in Bendigo from 7:30pm on Second Wednesday of the Month.

This is subject to change so if you're thinking of coming along best to get in touch with the Section Director first.

How to join?

BDAS welcomes all ASV members that live or are visiting the Bendigo region. You don't need a telescope, you just need an interest and we can help you with the rest.
