Membership

How to Join

Any person or organisation with an interest in astronomy may apply for membership of the Astronomical Society of Victoria.
A full year’s membership fee and a once-only joining fee of $30  (except for junior members under 18) is payable.
On joining you will receive; a welcome letter, a guide to the ASV and a membership card. For any queries you can contact the Membership Secretary on membership@asv.org.au

Fees

Please note that Membership kits may take up to six weeks to be delivered as this Manual part of the application is only processed at the end of each month, however you will receive your Member number not long after registering and can begin to enjoy the Benefits straight away.

• Membership (in one person’s name)  - Annual Fee $80                                           
• 18-64 years inclusive
• Eligible for one set of publications
• For Council and other elections eligible for one vote
• Family Membership – Annual Fee $120
• Two adults and any number of children may share a family membership where  one set of publications and one web access is available.
• For further details and to create a family membership you must email the ASV Membership Secretary on membership@asv.org.au
• Concessional Membership (in one person’s name)  - Annual Fee $60                  
• Applies to; - Pensioners and seniors aged 65 years and over, Disability Pensioners, full time students, Interstate – non Victorian Australian residents, Juniors under 18 years - no joining fee required for juniors
• Eligible for one set of publications
• For Committee and other elections eligible for one vote if over 18 years
• Proof of age and concession status may be requested by the membership secretary
• Libraries and other institutions – Annual Fee $100
• Overseas Members – Annual Fee $100

 

Benefits

In addition to monthly meetings often including invited guest speakers, the Society invites members to regular get-togethers – including observing sessions – at various ASV sites in metropolitan Melbourne and at the ASV dark sky near Heathcote in central Victoria. Some meetings are also available online and there are social media groups covering specific and more general astronomical interests.
There are also social events such as a ‘Star-Be-Cue’ and other activities where members of all skill levels and experience meet to discuss all things astronomical.

Membership Renewal

Members will receive an email when the annual renewal is due for payment. Your membership card also shows the month when the renewal is due. (The membership card does not expire unless you choose not to renew).The renewal can be made using the PayPal service on the renewal page of the website. You do not need a PayPal account – if you wish to pay using a personal card simply select to pay using a credit or debit card when the PayPal screen is displayed.
